The Russian Choir was set up in 1974. It is an amateur mixed shoir. The group was organized by its first leader John Tungal, who is a well-known Estonian conductor. More then 15 years the conductor of Russian Choir is the senior lecturer of the Estonian Music Academy Olga Tungal. The repertoire includes classical compositions of the russian, estonian, european composers, the Russian sacred music, folk songs. There are about 40 singers in the choir. They have different proffessions, some of them are students. The average age of the singers is approximately 30. Since the year of 1975 the choir has been indispensable participant of music festivals. It has taken part in festivals of sacred music "Credo" in Tallinn. The choir performed on the best stages of Estonia. It was on tours in Latvia, Belorus, Moldova, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Karelia, Ukraina, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands. In 1993 the choir performed in the International F.Shubert Competition in Vienna. In 1998 there were concerts in Norway. The choir successfully participated in two competitions of chamber choirs of Estonia. It performed with well-known pianist Ivari Ilja, with solists Mati Palm, Leili Tammel, Teo Maiste.
